Sarah came to Habitat to provide her children with a safe and stable home. As a single mom of two, finding a decent and affordable place to live in Cape Coral has been difficult.

Living in a rental with numerous maintenance issues is taking a toll on Sarah’s family. Both of her sons are asthmatic and need a healthier environment to thrive. But Sarah is building the foundation for a better and more stable life through her partnership with Habitat.

Women Build volunteers worked shoulder-to-shoulder with Sarah to raise the walls of her future home in Cape Coral.

“It’s very motivational,” Sarah shared. “When you’re a single mom with two kids… you won’t give up because you want the best for you and your family.”

On Saturday, March 11th, Sarah worked shoulder-to-shoulder with a majority-female volunteer crew and raised the walls of her future home in Cape Coral.

Like all families who partner with Habitat, Sarah will contribute 300 hours of “sweat equity,” attend homeownership classes and pay two thousand dollars toward closing costs.

At closing, Sarah will buy her home with a zero percent interest loan, and Habitat will set her mortgage payments at 30 percent or less of her income. Plus, her sons will have their own rooms, a yard to play in, and will finally be able to breathe easier.
