What are CDBG-DR Funds?

Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant funds are appropriated by Congress and allocated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to rebuild disaster-impacted areas. The reimbursement-based funding supports long-term recovery in Lee County, especially for low-income earning families. At the Lee County Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, September 17, Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties has been allocated $50 million in CDBG-DR funding for five Habitat neighborhood developments. We are grateful for Lee County’s trust and belief in Habitat’s ability to lead long-term recovery through our affordable homeownership model.

Building 262 Affordable Homes in Lee County

The CDBG-DR funds are allocated to five Habitat neighborhood developments, equating to 262 affordable, single-family homes. The partial funding helps us complete two neighborhoods underway, Heritage Heights and McNeill Village, and brings forward three projects, Diplomat South in Cape Coral, White Coral in Fort Myers, and a new development in Bonita Springs.

Heritage Heights: 106 future homes

Heritage Heights is a 24-acre HOA-managed community situated between Gladiolus Drive and Summerlin Road in the Harlem Heights area of South Fort Myers. The neighborhood will have 150 single-family homes and townhomes.

McNeill Village: 14 future homes

McNeill Village is a 10-acre planned HOA-managed community situated between Pondella Road and McNeill Road in North Fort Myers. The neighborhood will have 36 single-family homes, with three- and four-bedroom designs ranging from 1,300 to 1,400 square feet.

White Coral: 26 future homes

White Coral is a new development of an 11.27-acre HOA-managed community located in Fort Myers between Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and Jalen Watkins Street. The neighborhood is planned for 26 single-family homes.

Diplomat South: 44 future homes

Diplomat South is a new Habitat development planned as an HOA-managed community located on Diplomat Parkway along the border of Cape Coral.

Red Hibiscus: 72 future homes

Red Hibiscus is a new development Habitat aims to acquire in Bonita Springs.
