"Thanksgiving is an important holiday for me. It’s a day where I can be grateful for all that I have and give thanks to God for giving me everything I need. I’m thankful for many things and if I took the time to write it all out this letter would never finish, so I’ve decided just to mention the important things in my life. I’m thankful for my parents. I’m lucky to have my parents’ still living together, not many kids my age do. I’m thankful for my dad having a great job and my mom being a house mom. I’m thankful for the surgery that allowed my mom to live and be home everyday when I come home. I’m thankful for my two older sisters. The oldest one is in college and it makes me proud to see her trying to make a good life for herself. The second oldest one is still in high school. I’m proud to call her my sister because she’s always there for me whenever I need advice. Another thing I am thankful for is my little brother. I love him to death. He’s always there to make me smile and is always joking around. Before I forget, I’m also thankful for my dog. She’s always jumping around and makes us all happy. I'm also thankful for my habitat house. It gives us a safe place to live and we're very happy. Like I said before, everything above is not all that I’m thankful for. There’s so much other things in my life that  make me happy and I should give thanks to God for, but I think he can see what’s in my heart so there’s no need to make this letter any longer." - Mildred Perez

"I would like to give a special thank you to Habitat for Humanity and staff members who thought up this brilliant idea of what to be thankful for this year. Those seven words make a person recognize that he/she is blessed. Many people, due to the downturn in the economy lost hope and lost focus on their blessings. How I know this is because I was one of those people a few months ago. Due to a lack of work and money, I was lead into a world of frustration. We all, at one point fall into what is familiar and that is the 'why me' attitude and feeling sorry for ourselves. Then I had to take a reality check break and check my blessing account. I said to myself, "okay, thank God I am alive. Thank God I have a roof over my head, clothes, food and at least a job. My family and I are doing okay and I just got married to a loving man." Those things are great and I will not take any of those things for granted. But those things I could lose in an instant. One thing I am thankful for this year is my peace of mind. If I did not have my peace of mind while going through troubles and circumstances, I don't know where I would be. 2009 has been a year that has shown and still showing me what I am made of. Thank you Habitat for Humanity for reminding us what we still have left." - Tina Scott

"Thanksgiving means a lot to us. Eight years ago, we had a choice to eat Thanksgiving dinner or move in our new home. We chose to move in our new home. In the mean time our new neighbors Juanita & Pedro Curiel brought Thanksgiving dinner over to our new home. We greatly appreciated that! I really enjoy my new home. They (Habitat) blessed "our new home" on December 6, 2003 and every room in the house as well. I got to speak at the blessing. I told them how thankful I was for my new home. Habitat helps people out, they give a hand up, they don't hand it to you, you earn it. I have told a lot of people about Habitat for Humanity of Lee County. I have had two of my friends move into Habitat homes since. They are Suzanne Evensen and Bridget and Cory Masterson. I thank God everyday for my new home. I appreciate ya'll for everything." - Donniel and Deloris Miller

"What Thanksgiving means to me. It's first the best time to be thankful because life is a gift alone when you're still able to be around your children, family and friends. I love the joy of being able to cook a big healthy meal in my kitchen for my children on Thanksgiving. It seems like it doesn't matter how much money you have or what your establishment is in life, just being happy that family can come together under one roof and share love. Even though I teach my children to be thankful everyday, just the holiday of Thanksgiving I've always loved; especially when my mom always did her best to provide us with a meal. You see, it's not about what you have, but the moment being with your loved ones sharing all that you have to be grateful for because many people don't even have that. I think everyday is a Thanksgiving moment. I am so thankful to have family that cares." - Matilda Fulcher
